For Rio Bravo, we tested a new bonus score called the “Did Not Die” Bonus, or DND for short. While subjectively added, the value was objectively derived from the percentage of competitors who completed all the shooting stages. Only 7 of 62 shooters ran all stages clean, 11.29%. Those 7 shooters received a 11.29% bonus to their shooting score. This resulted in a +/- 3% shift in ranks from 2nd to 13th places. 1st place and 14-62nd were unaffected.
This changed the match maximum shooting/run weights from ~55.5/44.5% to ~58/42%. A quick side note that the shoot/run percentage for an individual is not limited. An individual can grab as many points in shooting and running as they can against the competition. The top three averaged 63% of points from shooting and 37% from running. The match individual average was 52/48%.
These weights may seem low, but in objective fairness, I believe this exemplifies the spirit of Run and Gun. A shooting match where fitness is very important versus a running match where shooting counts. Nobody is faster than a bullet, so shooting ability is most important with fitness a close second.
Please let me know your thoughts on this. I am interested.
