2027 Mystery Ops Range Officer Sign-Up
We appreciate your interest in serving as a Range Officer for the Mystery Lights 2027 Events! Our schedule is packed with thrilling events set in stunning locations. It's the dedication of volunteer range officers like you that makes these events possible! Being an RO is a great way to make friends, contribute to the sport, and become a better shooter!
Please review our Staff page for full expectations and vetting process information.
You have the option to register for all events or select individual ones. Should you need to return later to register for additional events, you are welcome to do so. For the 2027 schedule and information, please refer to the bottom of the document. Please review the following information and thoughtfully consider your availability and commitment prior to registering.
***RO Deposit Policy*** - Regrettably, a historical pattern shows that range officers, due to lack of financial investment, tend to cancel or not show up at much higher rates compared to paid competitors. To reduce frequent RO no-shows, which happens at every match, a REFUNDABLE $50 deposit is required for each event you sign up for. These events take a lot of work, and last-minute cancellations disrupt staffing and the whole match. Your deposit will be refunded when you show up and complete your RO duties. There are 5 events this year; choose how many you will attend and add to your cart. A form will appear to confirm your duties, collect your info, and pick the matches you’ll attend. Thank you for understanding.
Range Officers ensure the safe and efficient management of the competition. They enforce the rules relevant to the event, providing a fair and pleasant experience for everyone involved. They are tasked with recording accurate statistics to evaluate competitors effectively. Range Officers also handle the teardown of stages, PICKING UP BRASS, and the cleanup of the course once the competition has concluded. Please view https://mysteryops.com/rules to familiarize yourself with our rules and procedures.
Required Range Officer Skills and Abilities:
-Communication: Be able to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
If you can’t make it to an event, tell the Match Director as soon as possible!
-Interpersonal Skills: Be able to deal with people, adapt to stressful situations, and work well as part of a team.
-Adaptability: Be able to respond quickly to changing conditions, responsibilities, and strategies.
-Physical Ability: Be able to run, stand, or sit for long periods of time and lift up to 80 pounds.
-Attention Span: Be able to maintain attention for extended periods of time.
-Safety consciousness: Be safety conscious and have first aid/trauma care training.
As a token of our appreciation for your assistance, we ensure our esteemed range officers are well taken care of. Your registration fee will be waived, and you will receive a complimentary match T-shirt plus other perks.
Range Officers run the course and RO for one another on Friday, then on Saturday, they oversee the main event. While it's not mandatory for a Range Officer (RO) to also compete, it is highly recommended that they partake in the competition to enjoy the experience as participants.
The availability of complimentary lodging differs with each venue. When available, priority for lodging is given to those who arrive early to help set up the event. Many range officers choose to camp on-site using tents, RVs, or their vehicles. Additionally, commercial lodging options are typically located in close proximity to each venue.
Transportation is crucial for Range Officers. The Rio Bravo and H.W. Lewis Ranches feature challenging terrain that often necessitates the use of high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles for access. Conversely, the Dos Hermanos Ranch boasts gentler terrain and better-maintained roads. The use of UTVs/ATVs is permitted, provided that operators are safe. Should you lack an appropriate vehicle, arrangements can be made to assign you to a more accessible stage or to provide transportation.
Failing to show up without prior notification may lead to inclusion on a blacklist. If you cannot be relied upon to be respectful and dependable, then your services cannot be utilized.
Communication on specific match details and updates will be via email from mysterylightsrng@outlook.com. So, keep an eye out for those. Thank you so much for everything you do as a Range Officer!
